Continuing Education Units (CEUs) at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science Executive & Professional Education

Participants in Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science Executive & Professional Education programs are eligible to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs are a nationally recognized unit of measurement for participation in continuing education activities. The number of CEUs awarded for each program is specified on the program information page and is determined based on learning contact hours: 1 CEU is awarded for 10 learning contact hours (1 hour = 60 minutes) of participation in a program. Thus, if a program contains 16 learning contact hours, and the participant participated in and attended all 16 learning contact hours, the participant would be awarded 1.6 CEUs.

CEUs are not equivalent to academic coursework or degree-earning credits. Certificates of Completion issued for these programs signify successful participation in executive and/or professional education or training but do not constitute official academic credentials.

Requirements for Earning CEUs

To be awarded CEUs for a program, participants must:

  • Review the learning objectives for the program.
  • Attend all program sessions and/or complete all required program activities to qualify for a Certificate of Completion.
  • Provide feedback on their learning experience by completing an evaluation survey at the conclusion of the program.

Upon successful completion of the program and submission of the evaluation survey, CEUs will be awarded.

For guidance on whether these CEUs can be applied toward professional certification, licensing requirements, or other continuing education mandates, participants should consult their organization’s training/ certification department or licensing authority directly.
